Domestic Violence Incident on Vinalhaven - Jeremy Vandyne arrested - July 21, 2016

Just prior to midnight on July 21st, Knox County Deputy Sheriff Justin Hills responded to a domestic complaint on Vinalhaven.  The complainant stated that she was walking home when a juvenile had approached her asking for help as a Jeremy Vandyne and a woman were fighting. The juvenile stated that Jeremy had tried to choke him as well. 

Deputy Hills arrived at the residence and spoke with the woman regarding the complaint. Vandyne was not at the residence at the time, but showed up a short time later. The victim stated that she had been thrown down twice onto the floor and threatened to have her “head bashed in”. Vandyne had received a cut on the hand by a knife that was involved in the altercation with the two victims. 

Jeremy Vandyne, 44, of Vinalhaven was arrested and charged with three domestic violence charges of Assault and Criminal Threatening, Class D, and Aggravated Assault, Class B Felony. He was transported to Knox County Jail with the assistance of the Maine Marine Patrol. Vandyne remains in custody at this time.

You don't need to wait for a drug take-back day - you can bring your old medication to the Knox County Sheriff's Office located at 301 Park Street in Rockland Monday thru Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. It's bad for the environment to flush them down the toilet, and not always the safest idea to throw your prescriptions in the trash, so please let us dispose of it for you. There's a convenient container located in the Sheriff's Office lobby - just come on in and drop your old meds off.

Sheriff's Log: July 10 - 16, 2016

The Knox County Sheriff's office received 364 calls for service from July 10 -16, 2016. Some of the calls not listed include agency assists, animal problems, bail and warrant checks, business and residential alarms, business and residential property checks, check-ins, citizen assists, civil disputes, crisis interventions, death investigations, nuisances complaints, court paper service, marine resource inspections, motor vehicle crashes, police information, school visits, suspicious persons and circumstances, traffic hazards, and traffic stops. An arrest or summons does not constitute a finding of guilt. An individual charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at criminal proceedings.

July 10

Sergeant Patrick Polky conducted an impaired driving detail throughout the county citing the following:
  • Ryan Baker, 27, of New York, NY, arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol in Owls Head.

Following a traffic stop in Union, Deputy Paul Pinkham summoned Sara Alley, 20, of Camden, for speeding.

Following a traffic stop in Thomaston, Dep. Pinkham arrested Alex Ditullio, 21 of Vassalboro, for operating under the influence of alcohol.

Following a traffic stop in Saint George, Sgt. Polky summoned Griffin Lombardo, 18, of Thomaston for speeding and passing on a hill.

Dep. Robert Potter responded to a report of threatening on Vinalhaven. The incident is under investigation.

July 11

Following a traffic stop in St. George, Dep. John Hansen summoned Mallory Farley, 21, of Rockport, for speeding.

Following a traffic crash on Vinalhaven, Dep. Potter summoned Sigvard Beckman, 25, of Vinalhaven, for failing to produce evidence of insurance.

Dep. Arthur Smith responded to a report of threatening in Warren. The incident is under investigation.

July 12

Following a reported domestic assault in Union, Sgt. John Palmer arrested Tyler Vangel, 22, of Lincolnville, for domestic violence assault, domestic violence threatening, reckless conduct, operating motor vehicle while license suspended, and violating conditions of release.

Following a report of a vehicle off the roadway in Warren, Dep. Nathaniel Jack summoned Tyler Dustin, 21, of Warren, for failing to produce evidence of insurance.

Following a wanted person check in Rockland, Dep. Joslyn arrested Thomas Long, 36, of Milo, on an active arrest warrant.

Following a wanted person check in Rockland, Dep. Joslyn arrested Peter Solari, 33, of Cushing, on an active arrest warrant.

Following a traffic stop in Thomaston, Dep. Joslyn summoned Alexander Libby, 21, of Thomaston, for failing to display valid inspection certificate.

Domestic Call in Union - Arrest of Tyler Vangel - July 13, 2016

Just prior to 4:00 p.m. on July 13th, Knox County Deputies were alerted to a possible “rolling domestic” call at Maritime Farms in Union.  According to a witness, while the victim was at Maritime Farms, she asked the witness to call for help for her.  The witness stated the victim was very upset and her face was bruised. 

The suspect, later identified as Tyler Vangel, 22, of Lincolnville, got back into the vehicle and they had left prior to Deputies arriving. Another witness followed the car and reported its location near the Common in Union. 

Sgt. John Palmer arrived and it was quickly determined to arrest Vangel based on the information provided. Union Ambulance was called to check on the condition of the obviously abused victim.  Among other injuries, it is believed she had a fractured nose. 

Vangel was charged with 3 violations of Domestic Abuse, Assault, Criminal Threatening, and Reckless Conduct, all Class D offenses.  He was also charged with Violation of Condition of Release, Class E, and Operating a Motor Vehicle after license Suspended.  Vangel remains in jail at this time.

June 27

Deputy Nathaniel Jack responded to the report of a theft in Hope, the incident is under investigation.

Sergeant Lance Mitchell executed a search warrant in Rockport for an ongoing criminal investigation.

Detective Dwight Burtis responded to the report of a domestic assault in Rockland, the incident is under investigation.

Dep. John Hansen conducted speed enforcement throughout the county. Hansen summoned Dustin Seekins (25 of Washington), Wayne Hooper (58 of Rockland), and Megan Linscott (18 of Warren) for speeding.

Deputies Scott Redmun and Arthur Smith conducted a bail check in Rockland. Redmun arrested Jason Fogg (26 of Warren) for violation of conditional release.

June 28

Dep. Paul Pinkham conducted speed enforcement throughout the county. Pinkham summoned Michael Niles (31 of Nobleboro) for speeding. Pinkham also summoned John Myers (27 of Saint George) and Garrett Burridge (23 of Cushing) for failure to display valid certificate of inspection.

Jack and Sgt. John Palmer were involved in a pursuit in Union. Jack obtained a warrant for the arrest of Nicki Winchenbach (32 of Union) for failure to stop for a police officer, driving to endanger, and operating after license suspension.

Following a traffic stop in Union, Jack summoned Debra Ripley (49 of Appleton) for speeding.

June 29

Burtis responded to the report of domestic stalking in Rockland, the incident is under investigation.

Palmer responded to the report of domestic assault in Warren, the incident is under investigation.

Det. Donald Murray executed a search warrant in Rockland for an ongoing criminal investigation.

Following a traffic stop in Union, Jack summoned Hillary Harriman (37 of Union) for operating after license suspension.

Following a check for a wanted person in Warren, Palmer arrested Shawn Brewer (33 of Friendship) on 7 active arrest warrants.

Following a traffic stop in Warren, Dep. Paul Spear summoned Victoria Burns (28 of Searsport) for speeding. Spear also arrested Jason Littlefield (32 of Searsport) on 4 active arrest warrants.

Jack also arrested Haley Terrio for operating under the influence of alcohol, operating without a license, driving to endanger, and illegal transportation of liquor by a minor.

Following a traffic stop in Hope, Spear summoned Jeffrey Christie (20 of Camden), Alec Raso (20 of Rockport), and Samuel Berry (20 of Hope) for illegal possession of liquor by a minor. Spear also summoned Samuel Berry (20 of Hope) for unlawful possession of schedule Z drug and a 17 year old for illegal possession of liquor by a juvenile.

Following a traffic stop in Hope, Joslyn summoned Jasmine Dennis (21 of Rockport) for possession of an open alcoholic container in a motor vehicle on a public way.

Redmun conducted speed enforcement throughout the county. Redmun summoned Samuel Woodward (19 of South Portland), Edwin Raye (52 of St. George), Nancy Manning (59 of Owls Head), Kerry Ilvonen (53 of Owls Head), and Jonathan Lussier (18 of Owls Head) for speeding.

July 4

Jack, Smith, Redmun, Polky and Sgt. Matthew Elwell were involved in a pursuit in Appleton. Jack arrested Damian Benner (18 of South Thomaston) for failure to stop for police officer, refusing to submit to arrest, operating after license suspension, exceeding speed limit by 30 MPH or more, operating an ATV to endanger. Jack also summoned Damian Benner for operating an ATV on a public way and operating an unregistered ATV.

Jack conducted speed enforcement throughout the county. Jack summoned Tristan McKittrick (38 of Madison) and Sierra Neilson (26 of Waldoboro) for speeding.

Spear conducted impaired driving enforcement throughout the county. Spear summoned Chandler Breen (25 of Thomaston) for operating out of season with studded tires; Cody Neptune (23 of Washington) for operating with an expired license; and Kevin Norsworthy (24 of Belfast) for speeding.

Smith responded to a report of threatening in Warren, the incident is under investigation.
