The company has not sustained a data breach, but has "discovered that credentials that match your Netflix email address and password were included in a release of email addresses and passwords from a breach at another company," according to an email received by a Netflix user.
Large internet companies routinely monitor the internet to quickly determine if their information has been breached. Lately there have been a few instances reported where user names and passwords have been exposed and offered for sale. It is likely that these names and passwords were obtained from one of the many recent large data breaches including Yahoo and LinkedIn.
We remind everyone not to re-use passwords for your internet accounts.
