Penobscot Island Air Mail Plane Crashes on Vinalhaven - June 26, 2017

At approximately 7:41 a.m. on the morning of June 26, 2017, Knox County Sheriff's Deputies Robert Potter and Paul Simonetti responded to the airstrip on the island of Vinalhaven for a reported plane crash.

A small plane belonging to Penobscot Island Air delivering mail to the island crashed at the end of the runway into some trees. The pilot, Ted Weslake, was alert and conscious with apparent injuries, though the extent are yet unknown. He was up and walking but could not remember what happened. Mr. Weslake was flown to PBMC in Rockport. The FAA has been notified of the incident.
