Female Bicyclist Injured in Collision with Vehicle in Saint George - August 3, 2017

Just before 7 p.m. on August 3, 2017, Deputies from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported vehicle and bicycle crash on Rt. 131 (Port Clyde Road) in Saint George, near Ridge Road.

According to witness statements, a 21-year-old female, riding a bicycle, was traveling in the southbound lane of Rt. 131, riding toward Port Clyde. The bicycle was struck by a car, operated by a 17-year-old female, which was travelling in the same direction on Rt. 131.

The 21-year-old female bicyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken via Lifeflight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. She is reported as being in serious but stable condition. The 17-year-old female did not sustain any physical injuries.

Port Clyde Road was shut down for several hours while Deputies investigated. The cause has yet to be determined; details will be released as they are known. Names are being withheld until notifications are verified.

Assistance was provided by Knox Regional Communications Center, Saint George Fire &Ambulance, and Lifeflight of Maine.
